Did You Know?
In 1339 Hermann Von Mengersen was an Abbot of The Marienmunster Abbey.
While serving, he had to surrender half of his earnings to Count Everstein & his son Otto
to protect and defend the Abbey's holdings for six years.

1570 - One Mengersen served in the “Kaiserliche Leibgarde” (Imperial BodyGuard) of the last emperor of Austria (emperor Franz Josef). Only a few hundred men where honored to serve as the Kaiserliche Leibgarde.

July 1686 -The Duke of Paderborn granted Christian Falcko Freiherr v. Mengersen the brewing right at the castle of Rheder. The castle of Rheder was the Family´s headquater for a few hundred years until Joseph Bruno von Mengersen died without a son in 1873. Because the Mengersen Family was connected to the Spiegel Family through certain marriages, the castle of Rheder went to the family “Spiegel von und zu Peckelsheim” who still owns the castle. Thomas Freiherr von Mengersen however is currently the manager of the
Castle and Brewery.

1752 to 1753 - The 57th Bailiff of The Chivalric Order of Teutonic Knights was Friedrich Christian von Mengersen. He was a serving Brother for The Order in the Baileywick of Koblenz in Germany.
The Chivalric Order of Teutonic Knights was formed at the end of the 12th century
durring the middle ages.

1782 - 1784 - Friedrich Ludwig August Von Mengersen came to America as a Hessian Soldier and served in The Revolutionary War fighting against The British.

1861 - 1865 - There were 3 known Mengersens serving in the civil war
and all three Mengersens were Union solders, fighting for the North.

1917 - 1918 - There were 11 Mengersens fighting for America
and at least 1 fighting for Germany durring World War I.
The soldier fighting for Germany was named Gustav Adolf Mengersen.

1938 - 1946 - once again, Mengersens were serving on both sides durring World War II.
One of the soldiers, was a highly decorated German U-Boat Commander named Ernst Mengersen.
